Middle Aged Musings

captain's log for a personal trip through my own uncharted future

Went to a fun ice cream social at the home of another blogger. It was fun and full of people and unique flavors of homemade ice cream but it was a bit like being in a sea of nerds like myself who are shy and sometimes blurt out opening lines that are impossible to follow up. The lines then lie about like dead perch, waiting to be tripped over.

Pop culture has entered my life at a new level. My son is learning to use the commode. The potty seat we got him has Sesame Street characters on it. Did Elmo say "sit on my face" or is it my imagination?

This is my first blog post ever. I grew up in a time when computers were big and took up whole rooms, phones had rotary dials, and it was expensive to talk long distance to another town. People sent snail mail, and there were about half as many people to send it. The world has morphed into something surreal in both its difference from the world I grew up in and its current rate of change.

I live in a suburb with a partner and a child. The fence around my front yard isn't white but it's a picket fence nonetheless. I'm a middle-aged woman who somehow missed the transition out of youth. I suppose I should have left the angst behind in my teens where it would have been a well-behaved cliche. But I am at a loss as to what other state would be as appropriate in a world where the bottom of the gene pool has risen to the governance of the most powerful nation in the world, and I stand in a bare spot on the sand stripped of my voice.

Here in blogland maybe I can find that voice once again.
